Paul Hartung, President and CEO
Paul is a longtime life sciences executive with a proven track record in launching successful startup businesses and leading Fortune 500 organizations. He has extensive experience in the laser and medical device industries, including managing manufacturing for Summit Technology, Inc., a leading developer of the LASIK procedure and other laser eye correction procedures.
Prior to Neuroptix, Paul was Vice President of Operations at Winphoria Networks, a successful mobile communications startup acquired by Motorola. Before that he was Senior Director at 3Com Corporation, where he was involved in a number of mergers and acquisitions, and directed global operations and new product introductions. At Trumpf, he developed high power automated laser systems for industrial applications. As Director of R&D at Laser Fare Ltd., he developed new laser processing techniques for the medical device industry and other applications. Paul started his career as an Advanced Manufacturing Engineer at General Electric Company. He graduated from MIT with an MS Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He received the FW Taylor Award of the CIRP for his research.
Richard D. Gill, Director
President & CEO TruTouch Technologies, which develops and markets noninvasive intoxication measurement systems. Dr. Gill has three decades of strategic management, research, and technology commercialization experience in the life sciences industry. At ProNAI Therapeutics, as President and Chief Executive Officer he raised $11.5 million and achieved IND approval of their lead drug in less than 2 years. Prior to ProNAI Richard led Signet Laboratories to acquisition by Covance. Richard has also served as the President of AnVil, ActiveCyte, and Genome Therapeutics Corporation, raising tens of millions of dollars for the development of their novel medical technologies and orchestrating attractive investor exits. His earlier career highlights include serving as General Manager and Senior Vice President of BTG International, where he led the global biosciences sector. In that role Dr. Gill helped lead the management buyout of British Technology Group plc from the British government, the firm’s expansion into international markets, and its subsequent initial public offering. Richard began his career at Unilever. In addition to Neuroptix, Dr. Gill currently serves on the boards of Launchpad Venture Group, Neuroptix, NABsys, ERA Biotech, and SynDevRx. He holds a Ph.D. in Endocrinology and a B.Sc. with honors in Physiology and Biochemistry from Reading University, UK.
Werner Schaefer, Director
Werner has over 30 years experience in the diagnostics sector, having joined Behringwerke AG in 1975 as a researcher. He eventually became President and Chief Operating Officer of Behring Diagnostics, USA. From 1988 to 1995 he served as Director, Area Operations & Scientific Development for Abbott Diagnostics GmbH, which acted as the area headquarters and technical hub for the diagnostics division in Europe.
Werner then became President of the Lab Systems Business Unit - first at Boehringer Mannheim and then at Roche - with global responsibility and sales of $1.5 billion.
Since 2002, he has divided his time between consulting and board activities. He currently serves on the boards of mtm laboratories AG, Vivacta Limited and Human GmbH.
Werner has a Ph. D. in Physical Chemistry from Philipps-University in Marburg, Germany.
Gunnar Weikert, Director
Gunnar is Chairman, CEO and Founder of Inventages. Before founding Inventages, He has more than 10 years of experience in the pharmaceutical industry. Prior to founding inventages, he was a senior vice president and global head for life science deals at Bayer AG. While at Bayer, he oversaw venture investments in technology companies and collaborations representing some of the biggest deals between big-pharma and biotechnology in the late 1990's. Gunnar holds an MD, a PhD in the field of metabolism from University of Düsseldorf, and an MBA.
